History & Legends of the Grand River Valley
February 9, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
If you can travel one hour east of London you can dip your paddle in one of Ontario’s paddling gems, the mighty Grand River! In 1960 the river was a desecration, a stench. By 2010, it was a wilderness treasure, becoming The Paddling Destination of Southern Ontario. Join us to learn about the river, its wildlife and its amazing rehabilitation.
Enjoy a talk steeped with the history of the Attawandarons, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee of the Grand Valley presented by Garth Pottruff, founder of Paris, Ontario based Grand River Rafting Company. Garth will be sharing his favourite routes, legends and tales of the Grand River Valley.
About the Presenter:
Garth Pottruff was raised on a farm in the community of Bethel. After graduating from Lakehead University his forestry career led him to Ottawa with the MNR. In 2006 his son encouraged Garth to follow the passion of his heart, teaching about the outdoors! Together they founded the Grand River Rafting Company, an outdoor floating classroom. Their unique interpretive style has caught the attention of the world: In 2016, over 35,000 people knocked on their door for a Canadian experience.
Please call 519-455-6252 to register. Seating is limited. No charge for admission but donations of non-perishable food items for the London Food Bank are appreciated.
